Key Notes for Ad Design

  • Responsive Design: Ensure all ads are optimized for responsiveness across devices. Use the provided dimensions as a guide, but focus key content within safe zones for mobile scaling.
  • High-Quality Images: Use high-resolution images (at least 72 DPI) to prevent pixelation.
  • Homepage File Formats: Video, JPG, PNG, GIF

VAST File Recommendations

Resolution & Aspect Ratios

For linear ads, the IAB highly recommends including low, medium, and high-quality options to render video ads even in low bandwidth environments.

16×9 – Widescreen Video

High Resolution

Resolution: 576-1080p (typical: 1280×720, 1920×1080)
Video Bitrate: 1500-2500 kbps (720p) | 2500-3500 kbps (1080p)
Audio Bitrate: 128-192 kbps for AAC-LC | 64-128 kbps for HE-AACv1

Mezzanine (VAST 4)

Resolution: 1280×720, 1920×1080
Video Bitrate: 50 Mbps (VBR), 15-30 Mbps (CBR)
Audio Bitrate: 192 kbps AAC

Mezzanine Information

The mezzanine file is the raw version of the ad’s video or audio asset and can be used in VAST 4 ad items. Publishers can dynamically use this file to create the best file for the given setting. If you intend to use your ad with an ad-stitching server, the IAB recommends including a mezzanine file and low, medium, and high-quality files.

Video Formats

  • MP4 (H.264) for progressive download
  • HLS (M3U8) or MPEG-DASH for adaptive bitrate streaming
  • MP4 or MOV for mezzanine.
