YachtWorld Showcases Women in Yachting Nominations

Seattle, WA – (September 18, 2012)– YachtWorld, the world’s largest Internet yacht brokerage portal and a division of Boats Group, today announced YachtWorld founder Jessica Muffett is one of 40 women selected to be on the 2012 International SeaKeepers Society Honorary Host Committee for an event showcasing women in yachting and ocean advocacy.  The SeaKeepers Award will be presented to an individual who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to marine conservation at the Bal de la Mer during the Monaco Yacht Show.  This year’s winner is agnès b., founder of the Tara Expeditions.

The women selected to be on the Honorary Host Committee have an exceptional background in yachting and marine advocacy. YachtWorld will recognize Muffett and the other host committee members by promoting them in a social media campaign encouraging recognition of other women with similar credentials.

These women who are making a difference in yachting and ocean advocacy will be recognized on the YachtWorld Facebook page.  YachtWorld invites individuals to nominate women for this honor by sending emails to nominations@yachtworld.com.  Entries should include an explanation for the nomination and a photo of the nominee.

“The honorary host committee of 40 inspiring women this year reads like a Who’s Who list and reminds me there are many more exceptional women to be recognized,” said Jessica Muffett upon hearing the announcement. “I encourage everyone who knows a woman making an important contribution to nominate her.”

Muffett founded YachtWorld.com, the world’s largest selection of brokerage boats for sale, in 1995, semi-retiring as publisher emeritus in 2006. She is also the founder of YachtWorld Heroes, launched in 2010 to recognize individuals promoting ocean health and the joy of boating.  After cruising offshore with her husband on their Baba 30 between 1978-80, Muffett entered the marine industry, including ten years as co-owner of a Seattle brokerage, dealership and yacht leasing company.  She served on the board of the Northwest Marine Trade Association, and in 2000 received their Jerry C. Bryant Award for “The Most Outstanding Contribution To The Marine Industry By An Individual.” Muffett served for six years on the board of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Northwest Chapter — two years as its president — and currently serves on the board of the Benaroya Research Institute of Virginia Mason Medical Center.

About SeaKeepers

Founded in Monaco in 1998, the International SeaKeepers Society – a 501(c)3 nonprofit – was started by a small group of yacht owners concerned by the deteriorating health of the seas. Their initial mission was to develop a compact, automated and cost-effective ocean and atmospheric monitoring system to install aboard their yachts, to provide data to scientists on the world’s changing oceans. Since its inception, the innovative SeaKeeper 1000TM monitoring system has been deployed in more than 90 locations around the world, including yachts, cruise ships, ferryboats, government buoys, freight ships and piers. The SeaKeeper 1000™ is endorsed by the United Nations’ World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and used by three divisions of NOAA – its National Marine Fisheries Service, National Marine Sanctuaries Program, and National Weather Service.
